LECTURE 02: BEYOND BITCOIN

  • Lecture I 

Begin with a brief history of blockchain through an intro to Bitcoin

Present some of Bitcoin’s limitations and explain how these led to the development of Ethereum

Introduce Ethereum and some of its key features, i.e. ability to feature smart contracts

Touch on the wide range of other blockchains, e.g., Solana

  • Activity: Setting up a MetaMask wallet 

Emphasize that unlike most websites, there is no “forgotten password” function in blockchain. Your password is yours and only yours and no one can retrieve it for you 

  • Lecture II 

Introduce how one interacts with and use blockchains through the concept of wallets

Introduce transaction / gas fees and emphasize their importance in day-to-day crypto operations
